Composite decking

Composite decking is a board made of wood fibre and plastic. Capped boards add a bonded polymer shell on the top and sides, which is what resists fade, stain, scratching, and mould — uncapped boards cost less but weather faster. We install capped composite with a hidden-fastener system, so there are no screw heads across the surface and the boards can move as they expand.

Composite is the right call when you want a deck you wash instead of refinish. On Vancouver Island's damp coast, cedar and pressure-treated need regular sealing and still grey out; capped composite skips that. It sits on a properly spaced joist structure — we build or correct the framing so the boards are supported and drain the way the manufacturer requires.

Composite is priced by the square foot, and the number depends on the board line you choose, the deck area, the condition of the substructure underneath, and whether railings go in at the same time.
