Framed vs frameless — what we install and why
We install a framed glass system: tempered glass panels captured in a powder-coated aluminum frame with a top rail. The frame carries the load and holds the glass, which keeps the system code-straightforward and serviceable — a panel can be replaced without rebuilding the run. We do not market a frameless system, where the glass itself is structural and the engineering and cost climb sharply.
Glass is the right choice when the view is the reason you built the deck — waterfront, a bluff, a valley. Tempered safety glass is required for a guard, and the framed aluminum handles coastal salt the same way our picket railings do. If you want the view without the glass-cleaning, picket railings keep sightlines open for less.

Residential & commercial
We install for homeowners, strata, and property managers, and work as a railing subcontractor for general contractors. Residential systems are supplied and installed complete; commercial and multi-family glass is covered on our commercial page.
Site-specific engineering is available where an elevated or complex deck needs stamped drawings.
What it costs
Framed glass costs more per foot than picket, and the number depends on the run length, panel sizes, the number of posts and corners, and site access. Rather than a generic per-foot rate, we publish real completed jobs with their actual costs on our projects page, and you get an exact written estimate after the site assessment.

What is the difference between framed and frameless glass railing?
In a framed system the glass sits in an aluminum frame that carries the load, so panels are serviceable and the code path is simpler. In a frameless system the glass itself is structural, clamped at the base, which pushes up the glass spec, the engineering, and the cost. Norcut installs the framed system.
Is tempered or laminated glass required for a railing?
A guard uses safety glass — tempered is standard for a framed railing, and some designs call for laminated. We spec glass that meets BC guard requirements for your deck and confirm it during the assessment, so the panels are right for the height and exposure.
Do glass railings block the view?
No — keeping the view is the point of glass. A framed panel is clear; the frame and posts are the only interruptions, which is why we plan panel sizes and post spacing around your sightlines during the assessment.
